Manchester United have missed out on yet another transfer target. This time on Bayern Munich’s attacking midfielder Thomas Muller. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the German international in the past few months, with reports emerging that Louis van Gaal wants to bring him at Old Trafford in the summer. Earlier this month, we reported that Muller, who is valued around €45m and has scored 13 times in 25 Bundesliga starts under Pep Guardiola last season, has asked for greater clarification about his role in the team. “I have reached the point where I want to know if I am an essential component of the Bayern Munich first XI for the new season and if the club has plans for me over the coming years,” Müller told the German magazine Stern.
“That’s why I will be out to have a meeting. I am not the type of guy that says: ‘All right, I have played a good part and will keep my mouth shut and everyone else is able to do with me whatever he wants.’ As a Munich boy your test at Bayern Munich is always a bit tougher, but we [players from the youth academy] are the grassroots of this club.”
“It’s no secret that Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes a little beyond the normal relationship between coaches and players,” he added. German newspaper Bild even claimed that Manchester United have made an official move for the German superstar. However, Bild reports today that Muller has signed a new contract with Bayern, that will see him tied at the club till 2019. Fellow defender Philipp Lahm has also signed a new contract extension with the Bavarians.
